Porduction Week 2 - Movement, Items and Character

Corona is creeping over the world but we don't care, we have a game to develope!

Developement

In the last week we already established some movement, but something major is missing: The actual rubberband.

Rubberband

So this week we concentrated on creating the rubberband and getting it to the way it behaved in the prototype. Maybe even better.

This is the rubberband behaviour after a couple of hours of work.

The difficult part was fixing the vertical movement bug we had in the prototype and the bug that you couldn't apply forces which are really helpful. In this regard the order of execution and how we applied velocities was crucial to fix these issues.

HUD

In the player HUDs we want to show important information to the player. Some of them are: Health, Lifes and cooldowns (debuffs, buffs).

The first iteration looked something like this:

The big green boxed are lifes, the green bar is health and the colored boxes at the bottom are the buffs.

I think the lifes and the healthbar are simple but easy to understand. The buffs not so much.

So we worked some more to make the buffs representable:

Already somewhat easy to understand what is going on. If there is some real design put on to the cool downs, they will be even easier to understand.

Items

After discussion with the leads we are only making 2 weapons. The balloon sword & the nerf gun.

The Yellow boxes are dummy enemies to test the damage output on. Left (Green sphere) is the nerf gun and right is the balloon sword.

Inventory

This is the result of the GIF above when storing the items picked up.

Weapons

When the picking up and storing of the inventory worked next in line was making sure the items work.

Next up: Implementing the items and inventory on the 2-player system. Finishing both weapons.

Art

In the last week we started designing our main character aswell as some of our weapons and environmental assets

Main character

Our Main character is starting to take shape! We iterated on a horse costume you can find in carnaval stores. Of course we added some piñata candy flavour to them.

Weapons

We started on two weapons: The Bread Sword (previously it was a balloon sword, but bread and croissants  still seemed a bit more suited to fend kids away than balloons)

The Gnerf Gun, good to shoot pesky arrows at them pesky kids.
